About The Event

The European Union Delegation to Saudi Arabia and the Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University are organizing a European expert lecture on the importance of cultural heritage and museums for our societies taking place at the Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University on Tuesday, 30 May at 10.00 AM

The lecture will be delivered by two renowned experts in the field, Ms. Francesca Cominelli and Ms. Mariachiara Guerra, who are currently also delivering EU-funded training workshops in Saudi Arabia for the staff of the Saudi Museums Commission and wider interested public in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture.

The lecture will explore the topic of cultural heritage and the role of museums in society, from an international perspective. The experts will analysis how the notion of cultural heritage has changed during the 20th century, from the preservation of monuments, buildings and sites to a wider concept including intangible cultural heritage and community engagement. They will also look at how the role of museums in society has transformed both from an historical as well as social point of view. No previous knowledge on the topic is necessary to attend.

The lecture will be followed by a Q&A with the audience.
